Away in the mountains

As a child, I had the frequent privilege of going away to KwaZulu Natal’s Drakensberg mountains for school holidays. In case you don’t know where this is, it’s in South Africa, and is humanity’s final landing place in the movie “2012” šŸ˜‰ .

These were some of the best breaks I had, because they were filled with family and friends, tennis and other activities at the resorts, and of course, hiking. One of the best parts of the latter was racing each other down the mountains – which we now know as ‘trail running’. (Though at the time, we didn’t care for labels. We were just kids running like maniacs through these awesome backdrops.)

Earlier this year, I got to go back for the first time in over 20 years – with this also being the first time my wife and kids had experienced this famous mountain range.

It was a short stay, but breathtakingly beautiful.
