If you’ve been following this blog, you’ll know that I was hoping to publish the book today – 27th November.
Sold down the (Amazon) river
Unfortunately, things didn’t exactly go according to plan. I submitted the file in advance, but complications arose with Amazon – which caused much grief, and ultimately has led to me leaving gaps in this blog. You see, what I didn’t know beforehand was that to publish on Amazon Kindle, your work cannot be available for free in any platform – even if it’s an earlier, less-refined version.
As a result, I’ve had to pull almost 60 pieces off this blog – all the poems and reflections that made it to the book – just so that I could comply with Amazon. It means that what I consider my best writing is now no longer available here.
I’m currently awaiting approval from Amazon, and if all goes well, the book will be available on the Kindle Store – which is by far the biggest e-book distribution platform out there (which is why it’s so crucial that the book makes it there).
Other platforms – such as Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Google Play – don’t mind the work being published elsewhere for free. It’s only Amazon.
Today – my birthday – was supposed to be the day I made the big announcement – this book being available to the world. All the work I put in – 3 and a half years (on and off) of work – was supposed to culminate in the worldwide release on this milestone day.
But it wasn’t to be, unfortunately.
It still flows…but for fewer people
However, it’s not all doom and gloom. I don’t know how many people use other platforms, but I’m pleased that the book is now available in the following e-book stores:
I may also publish to Google Play Books – though that depends on getting the financial side of things right (since Google doesn’t pay South African authors).
Patiently waiting
So for all of you who use the above platforms, please feel free to head on over and preview or purchase the book. For the Kindle community, please hold on a little longer. Hopefully, it’ll be approved soon enough.
