The ocean is a song,
a never-ending show.
Her endless movement quickly teaches us of succession:
one generation of water recedes,
shimmering light dancing off its surface before it heads back to the source,
and the next generation pushes onto the shore,
obliterating the sparkling serendipity of the now-old guard
which visited just seconds ago.
The process repeats,
again
and again
and again…
So too does Time pass:
ever-changing years, months, days…moments.
Present becomes Past,
and Future takes its place
before being moved along;
replaced by the new…
mere sand and shells
the short-lived remnants
of what was.
The show’s been running
for hundreds…thousands…even millions of years,
with or without human presence.
And when we leave, these forces shall remain,
for Time moves on –
The Endless March –
era after era,
whether good or bad.
But such labels are mere human perceptions,
for Time is never good, nor bad.
It just is.
Our (in/)action turns these moments
into memories
sweet or painful…
all the while we see with limited eyes,
never comprehending the enormity of life’s events;
an unseen world at play
behind the curtain that we may never pierce
until our time comes
to join those who left before us.
So, as each minute,
hour,
and day
melts into the next,
remember
that you too will be replaced
in this transient realm we call Home.
Take lessons from what’s passed,
use them to enhance your present,
and see what gifts await your future.
For Time moves on,
ticking without rest,
use it or lose it,
O honoured guest.
The Endless March continues,
on this precious Earth’s shores,
spend this time well…
the choice is yours.
